Instagram Competitor Top Posts Audit

Audit comparable loaded posts across competitor profiles, preserve source links, and finish with one testable content hypothesis.

An Instagram competitor top-post audit should not compare a few unexplained headline numbers. Give every accessible profile the same loaded-post count or date window, sort by one field, open the Top 3, Bottom 3, and one middle source post, then finish with one original test hypothesis.

INS Sorter temporarily reorders the currently loaded cards on one supported Instagram profile grid in your current Chrome session. It does not compare profiles, save history, create a report, or change the public grid. You complete the cross-profile audit table manually.

Fix the comparison boundary first

Use three to five accessible public profiles. Before opening the first one, record:

  • the same loaded scope for every profile, such as 12 currently loaded cards;
  • one field: Likes, Comments, Views, or Date;
  • one direction; and
  • one question the audit should answer.

Do not use this workflow for complete account history, private Insights, ad spend, conversion attribution, or continuous monitoring.

The template improves on a generic winner list by requiring an equal boundary, low-performing counterexamples, and a source URL behind every observation.

Five-step workflow

  1. Lock three to five profiles, one boundary, one field, and one observation date.
  2. Open and sort one supported profile at a time. Do not carry ranks from one profile into another.
  3. Open the Top 3, Bottom 3, and one middle post. Record the URL, format, visible hook or CTA, and obvious confounds.
  4. Separate observation from interpretation. “Uses a question CTA” is visible; “questions caused more comments” is untested.
  5. Produce one original hypothesis. Keep other variables as stable as practical and validate the result with data you own.

Verification checklist

  • Every profile uses the same loaded count or date window.
  • Every profile is sorted by one field; missing values remain missing.
  • Top 3, Bottom 3, and middle positions retain source URLs.
  • Every interpretation has a “cannot conclude” note.
  • The output contains one original test, not copied competitor wording.
  • No conclusion claims reach, saves, shares, conversions, spend, or a persistent trend without owned evidence.

Limits

This is a snapshot of currently loaded page evidence, not complete competitor history. Public counts can change, like counts may be hidden, cards can be virtualized, and boosted distribution may be invisible. Raw numbers across accounts are also confounded by audience size. Use the numbers to narrow what you open, not to award a content-quality score.

If a profile is inaccessible, the chosen field is broadly missing, or an equal boundary cannot be established, mark that row not_comparable and stop. Do not fill gaps with estimates.

Next step

Use the INS Sorter product page when you need a current-profile shortlist, complete the table manually, and move only one hypothesis into your next owned content test. Other cluster pages are not public yet, so this page does not link to them.

Frequently asked questions

How many competitors should I audit?

Three to five is enough for a reviewable small sample. The gate is not account count; it is whether every account uses the same boundary.

Can I compare the highest Likes across accounts directly?

Not defensibly. Audience size, paid distribution, and metric visibility differ. Select examples within each profile, then review them qualitatively.

Why inspect the Bottom 3?

They provide counterevidence and reduce the chance of mistaking a feature seen only among winners for a cause.

Does sorting change a competitor's public profile?

No. It temporarily reorders loaded cards only in your current browser page.
